ABRA Buckskin Bred Program - Hardship

The ABRA Buckskin Bred Program Welcomes More Horses Than Ever

The ABRA Buckskin Bred Program has expanded, opening the door for even more Paint, Pinto, and Appaloosa owners to showcase their horses’ Buckskin heritage.

In 2025, the American Buckskin Registry Association (ABRA) introduced new eligibility pathways that allow horses with verified Buckskin lineage or qualifying color to register, show, and earn recognition within ABRA’s growing community.

✨ What’s New in the ABRA Buckskin Bred Program

The ABRA Buckskin Bred Program now includes two exciting qualification options:

4th-Generation Lineage QualificationHorses with a great-great grandsire or granddam (4th generation) that meets ABRA’s Regular Registry color guidelines may now qualify, provided parentage can be verified.

Hardship Clause (REG124)Horses with white markings outside ABRA’s color standards—such as Paints, Pintos, or Appaloosas—may now qualify under the Hardship Clause (REG124) if they carry one of ABRA’s approved base-coat colors (Buckskin, Dun, Red Dun, Grulla, or Perlino Dun).

These updates mean your Paint, Pinto, or Appaloosa could now be eligible to register and show in Buckskin Bred classes at ABRA-approved events, including the ABRA World Show, Futurities, and Ranch Challenge.

📋 Important Details About the ABRA Buckskin Bred Program

• The Buckskin Bred Program is not eligible for foals born before December 31.

Buckskin Bred horses are not eligible for a Weanling Work Order (WWO).

• All horses must meet ABRA conformation standards and provide four color photographs with registration.

🎉 2026 Half-Price Hardship Registration

To celebrate the expansion, the American Buckskin Registry Association is offering half-price registration for Hardship Buckskin Bred horses in 2026—those that qualify under the Hardship Clause (REG124).
