If you love spending time in the saddle—whether it’s trail riding, arena cruising, or laid-back lessons—the ABRA Recreational Riding Program is for you!
Launched in 2022, this unique program was created to celebrate and reward ABRA members who ride for enjoyment outside the show ring. It’s the perfect opportunity to track your riding hours, connect with fellow members, and get recognized for the time and effort you put into building a strong partnership with your horse.
✅ What is Recreational Riding?
ABRA defines recreational riding as work under saddle done for enjoyment, not show preparation. This includes:
Trail riding
Arena riding for fun
Riding lessons focused on improving recreational skills
Ranch riding (non-competitive)
Clinics without show prep intentions
Whether your horse is green or seasoned, all riding counts—as long as it's done for the love of the ride.
🏆 How the ABRA Recreational Riding Program Works
💬 ABRA riders of all ages, disciplines, and skill levels are welcome to join. Just log your ride hours throughout the year—ABRA trusts members to record their time on the honor system.
You’ll receive a certificate of achievement at the end of the year, and awards will be given at milestone hours:🎉 200 • 300 • 400 • 500 hours
These awards are managed by the ABRA Recreational Riding Program Committee.
💛 Why Join?
This program not only celebrates your time in the saddle—it also helps promote the value of all horses, from young prospects to trusted trail veterans. By recognizing the importance of everyday riding, ABRA is elevating the worth of well-rounded, reliable equine partners across the country.
