The American Buckskin Registry Association (ABRA) has expanded the Buckskin Bred Program, making it easier than ever for horses with Buckskin lineage to gain recognition — even if they don’t meet ABRA’s traditional color guidelines. Under the Hardship Clause (REG124), horses with white markings outside the standard criteria can now qualify, and ABRA is celebrating with a 2026 Half-Price Buckskin Bred Hardship Registration special.
What Is Buckskin Bred Hardship Registration?
The Buckskin Bred Hardship Registration allows horses such as Paints, Pintos, or Appaloosas, who genetically trace back to a qualifying Buckskin ancestor, to enter the Buckskin Bred Program, provided parentage can be verified according to ABRA guidelines.
This includes horses with:
• White patterns outside ABRA’s color limits
• A Buckskin, Dun, Cream, or other eligible color in their lineage
• Verified parentage or DNA confirmation
• A great-great grandparent (4th generation) meeting Regular Registry criteria
Why Owners Are Registering in 2026
The benefits are strong:
🐴 Eligibility for ABRA Buckskin Bred classes

And in 2026, the registration fee is half price for Hardship horses:💛 Members: $100
