ABRA Medication Rule Updated: Cetirizine Permitted Effective Immediately

The American Buckskin Registry Association has approved an important medication rule change that takes effect immediately.
The ABRA Board of Directors voted to permit cetirizine in ABRA competition. Competitors administering cetirizine are no longer required to file a Medication Report Form (MRF) for its use.
The change follows a recommendation from the ABRA Drug Committee and will also be incorporated into the 2027 ABRA Handbook.
What the ABRA Medication Rule Change Means for Competitors
Cetirizine is an antihistamine used in equines to manage allergic skin reactions, hives and environmental allergies.
Under the newly approved ABRA medication rule, cetirizine is now a permitted substance in ABRA competition. The change is effective immediately, and competitors using cetirizine no longer need to submit an MRF for the medication.
This update applies specifically to cetirizine.
ABRA competitors should continue to follow all other current medication rules and requirements unless an additional change is formally announced by the association.
